Car Starts But have to give it a ton of gas help please!

Hi, i got a 94 ford probe 2.0. The car is starting but i have to give it a ton of gas and its not idling when it starts. I have to keep giving it gas to keep it started. One time it did idle when i got it to start but the next time i started it and so on it didnt idle. It takes alot of turn overs and alot of pushing on the gas. Its fuel injected and you shouldnt have to give it gas to start. Fuel filter has been changed. Fuel Pump is working. Just cant seem to figure out the problem, im thinking its mass air flow sensor anyone have any ideas? thx. tony

First it could be the mass air flow senor but before you go spending a ton of money for it .Is your check eng light on if it is not then probally not the mass air flow.if it is first try cleaning it to make sure the door is free to move also make sure the connection is good and clean.tapping on the top of the senor some times makes the check eng light go out if this is the case then yes the senor is probally bad.

but what your explaining (if i read it right) sounds to me like a TPS switch is bad the TPS switch tells the car how much gas to give at certain times.if it is bad then the car does not know when to give it gas witch is why you have to manually give it gas to keep it going.

Hi I have a 1994 Ford Probe and have a similar problem. When I start the car it runs fine but after a couple of minutes the revs cycle high and low then the car stalls. Its hard to restart as I have to maintain high revs until they stabalise. Once this happens the car drives fine. It tends to happen more when the car is warm and then restarted after 10minutes. It runs realy ruff while keeping the revs high (about 6000)

Used to own a ford explorer that did this. It was the IAT sensor
