96 Bonneville SE Runs bad and doesnt start
I have a 96 Bonneville SE 131,000 miles and just recently the car has been acting up. Itll run fine when its cold but then you shut it off for a few mins to go in a store or something when you come back out to start it it spits and sputters and sometimes quits. When it does run it has a very hard time gaining speed. I have it in a shop right now and the mechanic has it narrowed down to the dash because he said when the car is spitting and sputtering he slams the dash and all the gauges go nuts once in a while when he does it the gauges work and the car runs very nice. Im in desperate need of help because there is over 500 bucks in labor just to find out what the deal is.
Ive replaced plugs, wires and cleaned the throttle body. Also when my friend put the scanner on it, it was throwing out a IC Circuit not toggeling code and a CKP Sensor code. Please please please help with this. Any info will be great. Thanks a bunch guys |

Re: 96 Bonneville SE Runs bad and doesnt start
Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread here... I am having the same exact problem right now. Was only getting a code for 02 sensor at first now for a misfire here and there. Things I have done so far... Replaced bad fuel pump, filter, and lines, replaced leaking Intake Manifold gaskets (upper & lower), replaced 02 sensor and ecu, new plugs and wires, cleaned ground bus as well as grounds on fender. I've replaced the battery. Problem while cold starting... I turn the key, it cranks, starts very low idle sounds like it is bogging out. If I feather the gas for a few minutes until it warms up it will idle very well. Once it has been driven to the store and good and warm, I turn the car off get out 5 minutes later I try to start it and it will just crank. if I spray staring fluid in her she will fire up, still idleing poorly though. If I stop on the gas it will bog out. I have to slowly give it gas to make it accelerate. I have heard other talk about Crankshaft and or Camshaft sensors causing this problem. Any ideas? This is starting to drive me mad. Thanks. This is on a 95 Bonneville 3.8 SE with about 130k

Re: 96 Bonneville SE Runs bad and doesnt start
Ok. So I got a new crank sensor and put that in today and what do ya know... It didn't fix my problem
I have cleaned every ground I could find on the car. Running out of options here. Any help would be great. Thanks again.

Re: 96 Bonneville SE Runs bad and doesnt start
Check your vacuum hoses, make sure they're all connected. Also, make sure your fuel injectors aren't loose. I learned the hard way that bad hoses do not show up on scans.

Re: 96 Bonneville SE Runs bad and doesnt start
I have checked all Vac. lines and replaced one questionable one. Other than that all seems well. Also, don't know if relevant or not the security light has been on for years, dont know if that might have something to do with it.
