Heat ... Lack of....
OK... to start off, I have read the thread on the Heater Core replacement.. uugghh...
Here is my issue. I have a 2000 Bravada ... The blower works and pushes out air ... cool air... I have the manual temp control set to 85, the higher I turn the fan on just makes the air feel cooler. I originally thought I had a Thermostat stuck open as my engine didn't seem to get to the 210 level... Changed it, engine temp still stays around 190 I would say.. not quite to the 210 mark.. If I let the thing run for 20 min or so with the defrost on, it will typically have the windows defrosted, but that's about it ... not what I would consider "warm" when I get in the truck. There is no leaking as I would expect if I had a heater core problem ... but I don't know if it would necessarily leak or not... Am I looking at a heater core replacement or something simple like a fuse somewhere or a gate not moving in the ducts :-) Thanks! Cold Feet in Indy!! |

Re: Heat ... Lack of....
Are both heater hoses hot at the heater core? They should both be about the same temperature, almost too hot to hold with bare hands. If so, Automatic Climate Control requires the use of a scan tool to diagnose the problem.

Re: Heat ... Lack of....
Old Master ... I've not checked the hoses at the heater core yet, but I wanted to go ahead and ask about the scan tool you refer to... Are you referring to a scan tool I can only have ran at the dealership or will a scan tool at an Advanced Auto be able to tell me what the problem may be??
To clarify ... I can manually adjust the temperature... not automatically... The fan control and directional control (floor, defrost, etc.) can both be set to "Auto" if I want .. I'm sure you know what I am referring to. When I have the heat on and the fan on low... I can feel a little heat coming out of the floor vent... when I turn the fan up, it just cools it down as it comes one.. haha just planning to wear a longer jacket tomorrow.

Re: Heat ... Lack of....
The scan tool must be capable of retrieving body Diagnostic Trouble Codes, (DTC's). Most auto parts stores only have code readers that are only capable of retrieving powertrain DTC's. Check with them, they'll know what DTC's they can read. From your symptoms; check the heater hoses, the core may be restricted. If that's the problem, the core can be flushed very easily.

Re: Heat ... Lack of....
BTW ... thought I'd drop a reply post on here and let ya know Oldschool, I finally had a chance today to flush the Heater core out ..... I can now have Roasted Chestnut in the ole ride if I want .... What a difference .. WOW.. haha --- I did end up pulling out the box cutter and slicing the input hose off, a trip to Advanced Auto and $16.90 later, I was back in business... should have got the box cutter out from the start, it would have saved me about 15 minutes trying to pull the damn thing off..haha
Thanks!! Jon |

Re: Heat ... Lack of....
Good deal, glad you got her fixed. Thanks for posting back. When the weather warms up, you might want to flush the whole cooling system, then fill 'er up with fresh Dexcool.
