2004 Mercury Mountaineer

My 04 Mercury Mountaineer still has the factory radio in it. Just recently the am radio went completely static. Also, the scan button on the fm & am just keeps going and doesn't stop when you press it. Can anyone tell me what to do?

Re: 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have any problems with the FM reception if you use the presets or manually tune the station? If so, it doesn't really sound like an antenna issue.

With the AM issue I'd suspect a ground or possibly a bad rectifier in the alternator, maybe a bad coil pack, but that shouldn't cause the scan issue on FM unless you also have a problem with FM stations as well.

Any chance you have access to an oscilloscope to check the battery supply lines for noise?
