Mileage 2007 Ford Sport Trac 4.6L

I have a brand new 2007 Ford sport trac V8 4.6 litre. It has only 1450 miles on it. The mileage I am getting is very poor 10mpg in city and 12mpg highway. Is this normal? Any comments or Any suggestions?. I also have a 2007 Tahoe 5.2 litre that is getting better has mileage and I pound on it as it is my work truck.

I don't know much about the 07's too new for me, I like the older body styles but.....that mileage sounds pretty crappy for the year and the motor you should be getting around 15 I would think. When your oil change comes around make sure you use OEM oil filter and use Synthetic Blend Oil. Seen this tested with Royal Purple they had a 5HP gain (means a little better fuel milage) just from using Synthetic over normal mineral oil, not saying you need to buy royal purple I use Valvoline in our vehicles and seems to be a pretty good oil. That and if you do city driving change your OEM air filter to a K&N or some better air flow air filter. Good luck with the new truck. By the way is it 4X4?

Re: Mileage 2007 Ford Sport Trac 4.6L

With it being 4X4 it adds a little extra weight too because you have the front differential and transfercase but luckily by 95 they made the front differentials fairly small so they didn't have the weight that they use to. Plus with your new truck your still kinda in your break-in period things may still need to free up and get worked into place and your fuel mileage may increase a little. Have you had that off-road? I'm curious as to how they do off-roading. compared to the older ones.

Click here for KBB info for mileage. These are not accurate as they are estimated for the perfect environment. Your driving style will greatly affect your mileage. If my wife drives my truck, she gets about 1/2 the mileage I do.
