Help Please! car stalls at idle and while driving

Ok I am having a problem with my only vehicle. I have a 1989 Delta 88. The car is or was a great car but recently it dies while driving and if left to run idle for too long. I will be driving and suddenly I get a temp light then 15 seconds or so it dies. I wait anywhre from 1 minute to an hour then it restarts it is completely random, did it real bad a few weeks ago then stopped now its doing it again. Tried thermostat, fuel system,. Also last winter it did this like 2 or 3 times then spring rolled around and it didn't do it again till just recently and it is winter in Iowa again I DONT GET THIS. seem to be temp related but only during winter? LOST ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Also checked spark and fuel both are there?

Re: Help Please!

the temp light may be an unrelated issue as when a car stalls, or starts to stall, the dash lights, or some of them, come on.
I know you see fuel in the carb but My first check would be the fuel filter in the carb.

Re: Help Please!

It is not the heat that triggers a filter problem, in that style car and that symptom that go together.
When the fuel is pressurized, it pushes dirt/sludge or whatever into the filter. When there is no pressure, (the car is off) the dirt setteles and fuel will be allowed to pass through the media(filter).
So, you could start your car, drive it for a short time and have this occure. and at any time. You may go 10 min. You may go 2 or even 30 or even sitting at an idel
