3SGTE, 13B, 4G63 etc. which is better?
Hello,
I am currently researching 91-95 toyota mr2 (3sgte), 93-95 mazda rx-7 (13b), and 97-99 mitsubishi eclipse gsx (4G63). I am wondering which one is more reliable, best bang for the buck, easily modified to run with s2k's and maybe some v8's around (300hp) be a 13sec. 1/4 car. I know the eclipse has crankwalk issues and rx-7 and mr2 have detonation problems from heat. I really like rwd, awd cars. I know the rx-7 is probably the best bang for the buck and needs the most maintenance since it burns so much oil. But I prefer the styling of the mr2 which looks similar to a ferrari. The eclipse also has nice styling with silvia style headlights and has the awd capability which makes it heavier than the other two cars. I'm just wondering which one would be the best car to buy for someone on a budget that is low maintenance and reliable. I know that the mr2 will probably on top of the list and then the eclipse and rx-7 being the most maintenance. But with all turbo engines that is expected. Also how much would replacement/rebuild engines, transmission cost for these 3 cars. I'm sorry if I'm asking too much, but what I really want to know is which one would you get and why and any other cars that might be better to consider? I'm up for any suggestions. Thanks for taking your time to read/respond to my post.

I gotta give it to the MR2 Turbo...the 3rd Gen RX7 would get it but it has reliability issues...mainly the constant rebuilds which loom in the horizon or around the corner if you cannot PROPERLY maintain them.
The 2nd Gen GSX's are notorious for crankwalk and other drivetrain problems...the 1st Gen's were less problematic and could handle more power on stock internals, not to mention that they were lighter. MR2's can handle up to around 400HP on stock internals so go have fun... |

The 1st gen turbo eclipse engines had huge potential and were very cheap to modify. Usually when someone wants to build a cheap 10-second car, they look to those eclipses (and the early talon tsi's).
