99 GTP DIC flashing 0's

I have a 99 GTP that I put together with/for my 15 yr old son. Everything works but the DIC. It is out of a 97 GTP and the wiring fit exactly as it should. It senses which doors are open and the trunk, too, but none of the digital stuff works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 99 GTP DIC flashing 0's

Welcome to AF.

Normally when you get flashing 0s on the DIC it indicates a loss of serial data or communications between the DIC and PCM module. I don't believe the DIC for a '97 GTP is compatible with the '99 GTP. There are some differences such as the performance shift and tire pressure monitor system, etc. Plus the PCM modules are not the same so there may be a discrepancy in the serial data bus and most likely wiring.

Re: 99 GTP DIC flashing 0's

Thank you. Both of the vehicles have the performance shift and tire pressure monitor. At least they both have the switch on the shifter and the calibration button under the dash. Would changing PCM's make a difference? I have both vehicles.

Re: 99 GTP DIC flashing 0's

You mean put a '97 PCM into the '99? I wouldn't do that. The PCM module doesn't sound like the issue unless it is bad but it wouldn't hurt to check out wiring point to point between the DIC and PCM. I recall there are variations in the wiring from '97 to '99. One of our members recently did an analog to digital DIC conversion and posted some wiring diagrams which may be of use. See link below.

BTW - On your '99 is the performance shift indicator working on the dash IP when you press performance shift on the shifter? Also, what happened to the '99's DIC since you stated you are using the DIC from a '97 GTP.

According to my old parts listing the enhanced DICs are the same for '98 to at least '02. GM Part Number: 9360352. But it doesn't show anything specifically for '97.

I'll have our Parts Mod check it out and weigh-in.

Re: 99 GTP DIC flashing 0's

No the perf shift does not indicate. The 99 was in baskets when I got it and the DIC was nowhere to be found. The DIC I have has an indicator on the right side w/ no buttons. They are for "check tire press" and "low trac". The only buttons on it are "eng/met","reset", and "mode". I drove the97 w/ the dic in it and everything worked, boost guage and all. I will compare the wiring from the harness on the 97 w/ the one from the 99.
Thanks again. And Happy New Year.
