Running at low temp - 99 Grand Prix GTP
Hi everyone, I am new here and I did read the message to all users of this site, however I am unsure of a lot of things mentioned there. I recently lent my 1999 Grand Prix GTP to a male friend who came back telling me there was something wrong with my car as it was running at "too low of a temperature". Something about it should be running "closer to a 100". I don't know what this means and if there is possibly a problem. Could anyone tell me what this means and if they know what I am talking about! Also does anyone have any tips on winter driving with this car as I have been having a hard time!
Thanks, Carrie |

Re: Running at low temp - 99 Grand Prix GTP
Welcome to AF.
Do you have a SES/CEL (service engine soon/check engine) light on at the dash instrument panel or did your friend have it scanned with an odb-ii scanner? After proper engine warmup the engine should operate around the regulating temperature of the thermostat which for stock is 195 degrees. Of course it will take longer for the engine to warmup in the winter but the PCM module (computer) should detect most anomalies.
