Angry '03 Impala

The lease is almost up in my wife's 2003 Impala. It's the base model w/ the 3.4; since we she got it in April 2003, it has been nothing but a hassle. Fuel mileage continues to get worse, though the Chevy dealership has yet to figure out why, there's a thumping sound coming from the right front tire, replaced tire, rim, struts and still there (thank God it's all under warranty), the front power seat works when they want to, had to replace the passenger side window regulator, went through countless batteries for our key fob, the transmission shifts rough, and Chevy can't figure out why. I'm debating if we should keep the car or just turn it in in April. $330.57 a month for a car like this is in insult to my intelligence, not to mention a waste of money. I can not believe just how poor of a job went into this car; I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid that I'm only a year and a half away from paying off and it is by far the best car I've ever had. Only had 2 things go wrong in the two and a half years that I've owned this car, a leaking water housing and a bad brake light switch. I'm pissed off and highly unsatisfied in how this car has been for my wife and I. I will never buy another GM product b/c of this car and my brother-in-laws Buick went out b/c of using Dex-cool. I won't mention the trip to Atlanta a few weeks ago and the issues I had with this car driving it. Why is this car plagued with so many problems? Is it that poorly built? What's the story on this car?

i would definately turn that car in. my 01 base has gone thru the same and believe it or not worse problems than yours. get rid of it. i would get rid of mine but i've literally replaced EVERYTHING that can be replaced (except whole engine itself) from the transmission to gaskets to cat.convert to electrical to intermediate steering shaft you name it i've replaced it all. so there's no way anything ELSE could go wrong, right?

Re: '03 Impala

Murphy's Law, my friend: Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. We're deciding on what to get when we turn this hunk of junk back in; I can't believe it, when she got it back in April 2003, it was brand new w/ only 113 miles on the odometer. Now nearly two years later 17,463 on the clock now, and I've had more issues with this car than my old '85 Ford Thunderchicken! I quit with this car, thank goodness we still have her old car b/c the Chevy dealership we've taken it too, hasn't provided her w/ a loaner car while her car is down. It spent two, 2, weeks in the shop last November for the transmission. Between misfires, faulty tires, and suspension parts and the dealership making me feel like an idiot, I've had it with this car. We're going import, namely HONDA ACCORD!!!

Re: '03 Impala

oh yes, let me add, the rotors are so badly warped on this car, under light braking, it shakes like it is about to fall apart, the tires "sing" once you get up to 55 MPH and at 70+, I can't even hear my wife sitting next to me, even the stereo system can't drown out that noise, and the ABS light comes on, again and again and again and everytime, they say "there's nothing wrong". Don't get me wrong folks, I'm not trying to bash Chevrolet or GM, they are like every other manufacturer, they have their high points and low points. But it strikes me as being odd that a car w/ this low of mileage, only 2 years old would have both small quality issues and big major issues at such an early life. I'm like the styling and looks of the car, but it has been a headache for my family.

the styling is the only thing keeping me going. I get alot of thumbs up when I'm out & about. when people say thats an awesome looking car I think to myself they obviously don't own one.

Re: '03 Impala

I hope the next person who gets this car from us si ready for a real problem car. In FL, where I live, there are lemon laws and this car should qualify, it's been in the shop more than 3xs for the same problem (transmission).
