Unhappy 99 GTP tranny problems

Allright here's the story, I hope ya'll can help!! A few months back I had no choice I drove through water over the hood bad I know well after that it was fine for about a week then I started losing gears. I flushed and drained the transmission and it seemed to work for awhile, and recently the rpms would rise and i could let off the gas and it'd catch well it esulated. Now I can drive it for a few minutes and it shifts fine untill I have to stop or it gets warm. and I prees the gas and it's like it's in neutralthe rpms shoot up and the car goes nowhere. I've heard everything from valve body package to sensors. I love my car but damn I got places to go. Can ya'll help?

Re: 99 GTP tranny problems

Welcome to AF!!

Unfortunately you need to have the transmission pulled and rebuilt. Nothing you can do at this point will repair the issue. It sounds like the water in the trans has caused damage to the clutches and bands and unfortunately they will need to be replaced. But don't take my word for it, take the car to a transmission shop and have them look at for you. Most will hook it up to their computer and should be able to tell you what the problem is within a few minutes. If it needs a complete rebuild it will probably cost in the $2400 range. If you want to put a used one in it contact Ed Morad, moradpartscompany.com for tranny. Usually around $800 for one for a GTP.

Total rebuild at 140K miles. Cost $2400 to redo. Was totally shot internally.
