Arrow lose steering and shake at times (1984)

the steering is lose and at times the steering wheel shakes when I'm trying to turn it! i was told something about a steering colom or something like that. if some one can tell me what is wrong. And about what the part or parts cost please reply!

I'm planing on taking a trip about 3hour trip. mainly highway miles. What are some thing i should do to the car before i go? and what are some ways for better gas mileage?????

How could we possibly know what is loose in the steering without on site inspection?, could be in the gear box, or steering linkage.

Well, to answer the second part of your post. Make sure your air filter is clean, if you haven't given it a tune up in a while, spark plugs and ignition wires can help improve gas mileage. I just changed all that on my truck and have seen a great improvement in gas mileage and plan on doing the same to my car this spring. Use cruise control if you have it and don't accel. hard. Oh, if you haven't changed the fuel filter in a while, that should be changed too. Basic maintinance will also keep your car running well and usually keep your MPGs a little higher.
