Hard on gas this winter,3.4 05 Impala with 58 000km'
We have anywhere from -10 to -25 here in canada,in the last 3 months i find my impla extremely hard on fuel,20 bucks in gas only gets me accross town 2-3 times abour 10-15 mins each way, she's eating the gas, however gas is 118 per ltr,is there anyway to make these 3.4's in the impalas easier on fuel,i can watch the gas hand go downas i drive, there are no leaks, air press in tires are 32psi,even took out the spare tire for less weight and drive efficiently, new oil also, castrol 5w30 and a new pressure control valve in tranny, new air filter, will unhooking the neg batt terminal help reset something in the computer to give her better fuel economy, anyone with any suggestions please repy, thanks

Yeah wait till the weather warms, anyway same thing here, my late model Lesabre normally averaged 25 mpg now down to 19, short trips, cold weather. If you have a block heater this would help faster warm up and better mileage, but thats about it, it's winter.

Also keep in mind that those of us who live in the Northern regions Canada, NY, etc. use a "winter blend" for the colder weather. This winter blend is also been blamed for vehicles getting poorer gas mileage. There probably isn't much more that we can do until the gas stations resume selling their "summer blend" fuels.

Also I'd like to add that when MBTE a fuel oxygenator was removed from fuel production due to concerns of groundwater contamination, it was said that we could expect a drop in fuel economy. I did notice more threads on this forum from many different vehicle makes where the owners were complaining of a" unexplainable loss of fuel economy".
