MissFiring or Air in gas lines

After running out of gas the car wouldn't start with three gallons of gas in the tank. So i changed the Fuel Filter and the spark plugs after that the car started but took a couple of cranks. But now when I push the pedal down the car wants to or does turn off. I have to push the pedal down slowly. So is the car misfiring or is there air the the gas lines. Thanks

By chance, is your car fuel injected?

I believe the 88 accord used a TBI setup, but I'm not all that familiar with the accord lineup.

There may be a problem with the injectors. Running them low or running out if gas can damage them. It could also be fuel/air delivery problem. When it does run do you get any smoke out of the exhaust?

some fuel injected units need to be bled if they are ran out of gasoline. I am not familiar with the process.

If it's a TBI unit like the civic from that year used, then you can remove two phillips-head screws and pop an injector out. If you crank the engine over and no gas comes out of the hole, you know you're not getting fuel to the injectors.

does it have a throdle (sp) position sensor?

this sounds like something that could be a problem with it, because a sudden rush of air without fuel could be caused by you opening up the throdle and the sensor not telling the injectors tomatch it.
