Cost for clutch replacement?

I've got 93k on the original clutch on my '96 G20, but soon I'll be teaching my son to drive it and then turn it over to him. There is a bit of slip under very hard acceleration, but never any smell.

The pedal got stiff and squeaky at about 83k, and the dealer replaced the cable and all was OK for 8 or 9k, and now it once again sounds like I'm stepping on a parrot. When the dealer "fixed" the cable, the tech admitted that they very, very rarely ever work on 5 speeds there.

So, when the dealer quoted $1100+ for the complete replacement, I'm thinking that maybe they are not the best choice for doing the job.

Can anyone tell me what a decent price is from an independent shop? Has anyone had one replaced at a Nissan dealer, as opposed to an Infiniti dealer, and gotten a better deal?

Any other "buyer bewares" that I should watch out for? I've always traded my sticks before it was time for clutch replacement, so I have no experiences with that.

Thanks in advance!

No chance of doing it yourself? What about a minor adjustment of the cable? I have been able to keep adjust my clutch for a good year and a half. Also, where are you located, that might help.
