Idle Control Valve?

Hey everyone. I have a 97 spyder with the 2.4 that is driving my crazy!

It will start and idle fine, until you give it gas, then it will shudder, and eventually die. I scanned it and found code P0505, which I understand that its an Idle Control System Malfunction.

Has anyone seen this problem? I hate to run out and spend $300 hoping that this will fix the problem. After all, it does idle fine until you give it gas, and thats when it starts going haywire.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as the only other car I have to send the wife to work is currently costing us $40/day in fuel alone!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Idle Control Valve?

I haven't seen anyone that got that code and didn't have a problem with the ICS. Most likely you will have to buy a new one, but I would try to clean it first. On the other hand, it should cause you to have gas mileage problems, just an idle surge. Is that the only CEL, or do you have others? How old is your front O2 sensor? That's the most likely cause of your bad gas mileage.
