Rear door latch question

Does anyone know about, or had to fix/replace the door release mechanism on the driver side rear barn door? After opening the passanger rear door, I went to pull the driver side door, but realized there was no tension in the handle, and the door wouldnt open. After removing the inside panel, I notice the latch mechanism came apart inside. It appears that a bolt that helt the latch to a spring is missing, but there do not appear to be any threads on the rod. How do I reattach the latch to the bolt and spring??

The spring will be down inside the door cavity. If your lucky the push nut will be too. Otherwise you'll have to go to the hardware store and get one 3/16 I belive. Un snap the rods out of the plastic clips first and the task will be easier.

The same thing happned to my 97' about 2 years ago. One of the plastic pieces that holds one of the rods in place broke from my kids slamming the door to hard. I went to the dealer and got it for about $3.00.

I'm trying to fix this exact problem on my '99 Tahoe. I've taken off the panel and I can see that the latch, rods and spring are all still there. The only part I have found in the door is a washer - and when I fit it all back together, I can't see any way to hold it together. The end of the post that goes through the spring and holds the piece that the rods attach to doesn't have any threads - nor does it stick out past the washer at all. I can see a round mark on the actuator - so I'm pretty sure that's where the washer came from, but I'm totally at a loss of how it was held together.

What you need is called a "pushnut". No threads. My local Ace hardware has a nice selection. Check yours. 3/16 I believe.
