'98 Won't take gas, rollover check valve?

My '98 Intrigue won't let me put gas in the tank unless I go real slow. The only thing that I can think of is that I had Sam's remount a tire that was leaking around the wheel bead. I happened to show up at the counter just as they were letting her down. I thought at the time that she came down a bit hard/fast. Could this cause a rollover valve or whatever to close? Why wouldn't it reset itself?, it's been 4 days since the visit to Sam's.

Does the '98 even have a rollover device? If so what do I need to do to fix the problem? I searched "rollover" but the one post that came up only mentioned blowing out the vent tube.

Thanks.

I've never heard of that problem before? Try not putting the nozzle all the way into the filler neck. Pull it half way out and see if that changes anything.

A pinched or restricted vent hose at the filler pipe is another possibility, no rollover "device".

Re: '98 Won't take gas, rollover check valve?

Just to update in case any one else has this problem:

The metal flapper directly under the gas cap that is supposed to flip out of the way when putting the pump nozzle in some how broke loose and was blocking the filler tube about 6" down the tube. It wasn't easy digging it out as it is very thin aluminum with a lot of memory and didn't want to come out. I was afraid I'd push it further down the filler tube to a point where I couldn't reach it. Why are these even there? All my cars have'em, are they supposed to prevent spilling in a rollover? Can't believe they are very effective at that. Now that mine's gone is it a problem?
Oh well, problem solved. Thanks for your help .

Not a problem. Those flapper valves are supposed to only allow the unleaded fuel nozzle into the filler neck. Used to be that you had a larger diameter nozzle when there was leaded gas available at the same station... Now I guess it is there to keep you from putting diesel in the tank!

Re: '98 Won't take gas, rollover check valve?

That's why I use a funnel when I fill up my Intrigue with diesel.

Probably the flap is there to cut down on air emissions for those bozos who don't use a gas cap???? Also, on a roll-over it would cut down on the amount of fuel leaking out of the fill pipe.

That's funny. I thought that in a rollover the gas cap would normally prevent leakage of fuel.

Perhaps it only works with Diesel fuel in it?
