Coolant light on
When I started my Passat this afternoon, I got a "coolant low" warning. I checked under the hood and sure enough, it is low. My question is this: can I add water just to get me to the dealer? I went to Auto Zone, and they don't have the G12 additive the manual says I need. Please let me know what you think. I really don't want to have it towed. Thanks.

Re: Coolant light on
If the coolant is low, but not all the way, then it is O.K. to drive. When engine warms up, the coolant will expand and the level will rise. I was driving with low coolant light for weeks and no problem. As for water I would not try it as you might dillute it too much. I bought the antifreeze at VW dealer.
