Exclamation Just Died 1994 rodeo

I was driving and all the A\t lights came on (power drive, winter drive, etc) in the center of the dash and the truck died but started right up. It did this about 3 times then today it died and won't start and none of the a/t lights come on when you turn on the key. I am in the middle of moving and can't find my book and i am hoping this has happend to someone else that can guide me to the problem.
thanks for your help
ps my speedo went out about 3 months ago

Re: Just Died 1994 rodeo

Generally, when cold weather hits, that's when it hits the alternator harshly.

I'd check there first; test your alt under load, if it's putting out less then 14V, time for a replacement.

Re: Just Died 1994 rodeo

will that cause it to not start even with a jump? and shouldn't it start even with out 14v but not run. I have found even if i get fuel by a bypass it still wond start.
also the A\c fan will not come on with key on

add to this :
Generally, when cold weather hits, that's when it hits the battery harshly, too. it could be both, too.

check all connections in the charging system, including the battery terminals and grounds, first, however.

Re: Just Died 1994 rodeo

i want to make sure and be clear
the engine cranks with no problem and i even jumped it to make sure i had good voltage.
I don't have fuel pump (not even the first 2 sec) but it still won't start if i by pass relay. I also lost the A/C fan and the 4 lights in the center of dash (power drive, trans light, and 2 others)
I appreciate all the help i can get cuz my book is packed and i need this rig to get to work i suck to ride a motorcycle in the winter in washington.

boy it sure has a lot of symptoms that point to the alternator, but....
i'd be looking at the ground and at the battery terminals first.

oh, then it looks like the pump doesn't it. but first....
instead of the bypassing, just swap another samerelay from another slot into the fuel pump relay slot and see if it works.
no? then check the wiring at the fuel tank
repair as necessary
or
jumper direct volts back at the pump.

the computer instructs the pump to run only when the engine is turning over, either from the starter or from actually running, except for those first 2 seconds when you turn the key on. all through the relay.

try the swap, and then crawl under there and see what you can see. maybe you have wire shorting out back there that is affecting other stuff.

it's a bit baffling from here, but my guess is something is going to popup as the culprit as you go through the paces. good luck.

Re: Just Died 1994 rodeo

Do you have a trailer wiring harness attached?? If so, detach it and see what happens.

Did you pull a spark plug to see if they got wet, or the air filter; also, you could have water in your gas tank too if you went through really deep water.

Re: Just Died 1994 rodeo

would any of that make it not start? i looked at the spark plugs and they are good i looked at the air filter and its dry. maybe a module of some sort got wet or my timing chain is broken or what? i am getting gas so its not the fuel pump or filter. I AM NOT GETTING ANY SPARK.

Talking Re: Just Died 1994 rodeo

I started this thread and i finallaly am responding with what fixed my truck. I hope someone can have some insight.
I pulled all the fuses (except the 3 or so that are needed to run) then the truck started just fine. So i started putting fuses in one at a time. When i got to the tail fuse it died like before and would not start. So i pulled the fuse again and it started. I continued with the rest and all was good. So i figured i had a issue with the tail circuit which makes no sense why it could keep it from running. So i put the tail fuse back in and the truck has been running ever since with no problems.
I love electrical problems
