98 Wndstar won't shift

My 98 Windstar won't shift to higher gear when the weather gets hot. When I shut off the engine and restart, all is well. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: 98 Wndstar won't shift

A high failure item that is not expensive is the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS), aka Neutral Safety Switch.
It is mounted on top of the transmission case, under the air intake hose.
The cable from the gear selector connects to it.

Also, make sure that the Fluid is fresh......it should be changed AT LEAST every 30K miles, using Mercon V ATF.
With the vehicle on level ground, and the engine at idle, in PARK, check the fluid level on the Transmission Dip Stick......add fluid as needed.
