Re: Need help fixing an overheating 95 Grand Am 3.1
you forgot the key part for bleeding the air out...DO NOT LET THE RESERVOIR GO DRY. ![]() Wont hurt to open the reservoir cap slowly while its running. You will hear the pressure release as you open it. Its near impossible to bleed the air out without that crazy valve.

I let it cool down, put a little more coolant in it, then took it for another test drive. Still did it again. So I opened the bleeder, tons more air. Is it out of the ordinary to have to bleed it many times before it's finally all gone? As soon as I let the air out, the temp gauge went back to normal and the heat warmed up. |

Re: Need help fixing an overheating 95 Grand Am 3.1
I would leave the cap ON.
And since you installed a new radiator it was realy dry. I forget exactly how many gallons the system holds.... Keep the heater on High to make sure it flows and the air isnt trapped in the H core. Thats what makes it intermitant cold/hot. When ever I replace the radiator or H core I partially fill them with the hoses disconnected. That way I eliminate the time it takes to purge the system. Dont know why they quit putting a radiator cap on the radiators. Cold is on its way!
