More info would help in this matter, such as what type of engine would be really nice.

Re: 05 taurus no trans shift

Additionally, the entire code. Your 05 has the OBD-II system. The codes should be of the format P1234 where P can be one of a few letters designating the system reporting the issue and the numbers can be a finite set of numbers. Numbers with a 0 in the most significant position (MSP) designate a generic OBD-II code, those with a 1 in the MSP indicate a manufacturer-specific code.

So were your codes a P0715 and P0717 or U0715, etc.?

Re: 05 taurus no trans shift

Which speed sensor did you replace? The codes P0715 and P0717 both indicate an issue with the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor. If you replaced the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) you replaced the wrong one.

If you did in fact replace the TSS sensor, then did you happen to check the exciter ring condition when you had the TSS out? If you know the wiring is good and you are confident the sensor is good, then you should next verify the exciter ring is good.

Per the factory service manual:
"Measure the depth of the exciter wheel tooth from the outer edge of the chain cover. The distance should be within specification: 18.65-16.92 mm (0.73-0.67 inch). Mark the tooth with a marker and repeat the measurements for the other teeth."

Re: 05 taurus no trans shift

I have no ideas regarding a ford tarus. My wife has a 1996 ford taurus, it was driving fine no "indicators" ( I was not iwth her) then it stalled. She got it started then pulled into a parking lot and then it would not ingage. There is plenty of fluid, there is no leaking put it shift to different gears but does not ingage. Does anyone have any ideas of where to look now? Did change the neutral safty switch.
