03 Envoy does not start

I have a 03 Envoy that does not start at all, completely dead! I have replaced the battery, checked the fuzes, alternator, starter etc...The funny thing that happens when I put the key in and turn is that the Speedometer and other gauges go crazy. All the other electrical things such as lights, and radio work fine. I also can't put the car in gear to tow it, so I am outta luck. I was doing some post readings and noticed that the ignition switch has been causing similar problems. I have ordered one since both me and the car are in a place that has no GMC dealers nearby. Does anyone know how to test the problem and/or replace the switch?

Thanks

Mark

How about a Chevy dealer same truck, this needs to be diagnosed with a trouble tree or wiring diagram. Alldata.com has an online manual subscription.

Re: 03 Envoy does not start

Last night my 02 Envoy did the exact same thing as the original poster. Now it's just completely dead, has a new battery and now the key is even stuck. I can't get it out or put the car in neutral to back it up.

I tried jumping the battery but nothing. HELP!

Is there anything I can do to take the key out of the ignition? Now its just completely stuck... I can turn it to try to start but the car is completely dead. I cant turn it all the way back to get it out...

So the SUV is just sitting in the driveway and I can't take it to the shop to get looked at.

Re: 03 Envoy does not start

I couldn't believe it, but it turned out to be the ignition switch, about $35.00. I replaced it and it started right up!!! Anyway, I ended up doing the job myself and it wasn't too difficult, it's up to you if you want the dealer to do it. The whole process took me about 2 hours or so. Turning the key on and off, will not help fix the problem...

I bought a Haynes guide and it walked me through the process pretty easily. One I disabled the SRS and took off the steering wheel and column covers, the switch was right there and replacing it was a piece of cake. My key was also stuck in the ignition; once I removed all that stuff, there was a little metal button that I pushed in and the key came right out......Hope this helps

Good work, took a guess or did some checks to find the problem?

Re: 03 Envoy does not start

I fixed it and it works like a champ. I actually bought the switch from a dealer, so I assume it was a factory OEM switch. It only cost about $35.00. If you read my other post, it was fairly easy to do using the Haynes guide. One thing I did discover afterward was ensuring that the teeth in the switch are set to the right position, I had it set one tooth off and it kept the battery power on after I turned off the vehicle. Good luck

Re: 03 Envoy does not start

Oh great stuff, this morning when my car was still sitting in the lot, I called the deal and they sent the mechanic over to see what the problem was and he figured it out. It was the ignition switch/cylinder block. The connector in that unit wasn't attach to each other so he took everything apart and had it attach it tightly and now the car is starting fine...like u said there is a teeth for that ignition switch, and its gotta be in the right position..Thanks for your info by the way!!!

Andy..
