Creaking
Hello,
I just recently had my head gasket changed on my 2003 impala 3.4L as I was getting oil in my coolant which cost a fair bit anyways that isn't the reason for this thread. While I was talking to the mechanic I mentioned I have a sort of creaking when I go over a bump, something as "harsh" as a speed bump. It's more noticable when it's colder out. They mentioned something about a strut mount bearing, and how it dries out now I'm not too car savvy so I'd thought I would ask here. Any ideas? Mike |

Re: Creaking
hello the hardest part is narrowing it down to which one is the cause.you can try to spray wd/crc on them 1 at a time to see if it helps.im sure theres a service bullitin on this.ill try to look for it or some 1 may post it

Re: Creaking
That bulletin talks about creaking coming from the engine mount cradle. The fix is to apply penetrating threadlocker to about a dozen different points on the cradle, to stop it from rubbing on the steering gear and itself. Your dealer should let you have a copy of the bulletin if you want to look at it. Or, send me a PM with your email address, and I'll email it to you as a .pdf file.

Re: Creaking
Well I think its the suspension.
I think its the front ones. I went over a speed bump that had a gap in it. So I was able to bump one side at a time. It looks like its the front two. The thing is it doesn't always creak. So what do I need to lubricate to test? I'm not car savvy. |

Re: Creaking
I'd get a can of silicone spray, get under the car, and spray anything that looked like it would move when the wheel moved up or down, especially all the rubber bushings in the suspension.
While you are under there, you will see the cradle that holds the engine. Spray the rubber bushings attached to it as well. |
