Re: Alternator!

Depend what kind or power youre going to have. 1kw plus you might want to upgrade. I know Ohio Generator makes some nice alts.

Re: Alternator!

i would think that avalanche puts out more than 105amp.. most cars put out more than that.

do the big 3 and get a good battery. I'm running 1200wrms on a stock ~135 amp alt and no dimming

Re: Alternator!

I didn't know any vehicles came stock with a 135 amp alt. Most companies deliberately make them as small as they can get away with.

A 105 amp should be fine unless you get a huge stereo and like to run a lot of accessories.

Re: Alternator!

Well im gunna be running 2000 watts and im pretty sure im gunna have some dimming unless I just get real lucky. But if I do have some dimming should I just go ahead and upgrade the big 3 and then look into upgrading the battery then the alt. Or is there a better order I should upgrade things in and what is yalls favorite upgrade battery thts not out of my league (like in the 100-180ish range)

Re: Alternator!

u should be able to find a 300 amp alt plus like 2 group 31 batterys with big 3 done in 1/0 and u should be fine for awhile. genreally people change out the bat and the alt at the same time but do big 3 first then go from there

Re: Alternator!

If I was really gonna run a 2000 watt system I would upgrade all three things at once and not one at a time.

Re: Alternator!

But is it pretty much certain that I will need to upgrade the bat and alt?
If so what bat and alt should I get?

Re: Alternator!

I believe the alternator should be first in almost all cases. That has the biggest strain of the three. While I wouldn't be surprised if the stock Avalanche alternator can handle the system initially, at 2000 watts i'm sure it won't last long. While I don't know any specific brands, many companies do make them for all sorts of vehicle applications and you can even have one custom built for your specific needs. Next would be the wires and I think this is better to do at or before your battery upgrade because of the increased power. Battery is last since it doesn't handle the load as much as the alternator does. The proper Optima type you need should be fine.

This is what I would generally say when upgrading these during the building of a system, but 2000 watts i'd do it all at once just to be safe.

Re: Alternator!

Ya I might go ahead and upgrade the big 3 and the alt when I do the system install and ill wait a while for the bat but how much of an upgrade do i need for the alt. And yes that is only for the subs Im also going to have a touchscreen head unit and eventually probly 2 other visor screens.
