1990 turning over, wont catch

Well, in a nutshell, I replaced the plugs, wires, coil, rotor, cap, and the distributor (the piece that the rotor sits on)..anyway, my car is turning over, and tries to catch, but doesnt..my fuel pump is fine, and i recently replaced the fuel filter as well..is it possible that one of the spark plug wires is arcing? I did buy a really basic set of wires, and was told that a cheap set could go quick and this could be my problem (and everything that I mentioned that I replaced was done only 3 months ago)..this car is old and I don't need to spend a bunch of money but if it is the wires, I'll pony up the $25 for a good set...

I would say check your ignition coil, and see if you have a spark. Check the insulation on the coil wires. You could pull the coil off and check it with an ohm meter, but i don't know the target range off the top of my head. Next i would check the firing order and make sure it's hooked up correctly. I have a 91 acclaim with a 3.0 v6. I've had a pretty rough time with it. I too bought the cheap set of spark plug wires and the number 3 cylinder fell off going down the road, resulting in a massive loss of power. I now refuse to buy the cheap set of spark plug wires.

do a compression check or have one done at a shop that you trust because the info you hear your going to want it from a friend, it sounds like it needs to have rings or it could be blowing by the valves either way a compression check will determine your problem with pin point accuracy
