glow plug Q

i heard that new diesel engines don't have glow plugs anymore, do they? if not how can they start in really cold weather, and if they do then never mind the question.

Many diesels don't. Technology is the answer. Finer atomization, higher compression, and common rail piezo injectors are the main reasons.

The popular Cummins 5.9 ISB never had them as far as I know. I used to drive school buses and the International and Cummins engines in those never had them and they would start as low as 20 below.
