Re: Hey guys
Welcome dude.
I think there can be a lot of money in business, but not always. Are you looking to go to a 4 year school or tech school? If you are on the smarter/more driven side and are mechanically inclined, I would suggest Mechanical Engineering. Its a tougher degree, but I think the average starting for ME's out of U of M is like 50 grand a year starting. If you dont want to go to a 4 year college, I would maybe suggest auto mechanics. I think if you're good, you can make a decent amount of money per year. Other than that, x ray techs make good money, and I think nurses do pretty good too. |

Re: Hey guys
Yeah, like I said if you're good and you get some good breaks I think you can definately make some nice scratch doing business, but thats not a Brown College or National American University kinda thing. Making that kind of money is going to take a good degree from a good school undoubtedly with a good bit of post graduate work. A business or finance degree or something from one of those 2 year schools is probably going to land you in a dead end job making 30 grand a year doing taxes at Jackson-Hewitt or Charles Schwabb. Not a bad job by any means, but I wouldnt go for it expecting a half mil a year.

Re: Hey guys
If you think about it, any job can bring you lots of money if you have the right skills for it... I've met people who make a killing off owning businesses, apartment rentals, construction, mowing grass, etc... Simple things that not everybody actually gets rich off of. It's all in how you market it and how hard your willing to work for it. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be "hard" work, just gotta be smart enough to make it work for ya.

Re: Hey guys
I've thought about getting into doing apartment rentals, there's a lot of money if you do it right and get the right tenants, don't just go w/ the first tenant that applies. I work at Rent A Center and I make pretty good money there, especially for the area I live in. I make right now 2x more than I did at Raymour and Flanigan so I would suggest RAC for anyone as long as you have good people skills and you don't mind re-poing peoples stuff.

Re: Hey guys
Next year I will be attending St. Thomas Academy in Minneapolis for a Mechanical Engineering degree. I have talked with many of the professors, and a handful of alumni, all of which highly recomended the degree. Some of the alumni I talked to said they started at 50 on average, but some hit about 65.

About the job thing to the OP, you can make good money at whatever you go into, you just need to know/meet the right people and be smart with your money. Some of the richest people in the world never went to college, they just applied themselves daily. |

Re: Hey guys
I work in the world of business, and it's definately who you know, and not necessarily how good you are. Two of our sales guys only come into the office ever two weeks or so. They say they are working from home, but are they really? Nope, and I know they make atleast twice if not three times as much as I do.
All that just because they are buddies with the boss.

Re: Hey guys
St. Thomas for ME? Why would you go to a more expensive and less known school for that when you could go to the U and pay half the tuition and get an education from the place that is something like 5th in the nation for MechE? It is a pretty school though, thats for sure and it does suck being a treated like a number (and a pretty small one at that) here. Regardless, its just down the river from here so I think next year I'll have to come down and tell you about how much better my Talon is than yours
