'98 2.2L SFI - Oil in Airbox
Guys, any tips for what would cause excessive oil transfer (~ 1/2 QT?) from the valve cover vent into the resonator box. I can't find anything that suggests the SFI engine has a PCV valve, just the vent directly behind the resonator box.
I've been getting enough oil transfer that it appears the oil will eventually leak onto the valve cover and down the side of the engine. Thanks for any help. |

That would be blowby (excessive crankcase pressure). IIRC, there should be a PCV valve near the front of the valve cover, on the right side.

You may have to remove the rocker cover. That's about the time that the PCV valves were built into the cover on the 134" engine. If it doesn't look like this, you may have to remove the cover:

Blue Bowtie, thanks again for responding.
The Chilton manual I have has a similar picture for the PCV valve location as what you've shown. However, that isn't what my engine looks like and I've read other internet postings that the '98+ 2.2L engines don't have a PCV valve, only the direct vent from the valve cover to the box. Is there a valve underneath the cover? I was associating the excessive oil transfer to a rather sudden loss of power that my sonoma was experiencing, but I was able to check the compression and each cylinder built 135+ psi. I thought this was pretty good for an engine with 150k miles. Not sure what to check next. The engine starts, idles, and runs great, doesn't stutter or sputter at all. Just lost a good chunk of power compared to the past. I replaced some of the easy items such as plugs and air filter. Have a fuel filter to change, but having trouble breaking the line into the filter. Might have to drop the tank and change the line as well. Again, thanks for the info. And I'm open to any and all tips you've got. |

i have the same engine and the pcv is located in the back not the front
