2003 Sable transmission problem please help!

Hi everyone I am new here and have a question for ya all. I have an 03 Mercury Sable approx 40k miles on it. this morning I pack the family up and we were heading out and the car started normally, I shifted it into reverse and backed out of the driveway and pulled into the street just perfectly normal. I shifted it into drive and it shifted normally into gear and I started down the street and about 50 feet later I noticed I was not accelerating and the engine revved. the tranny shifts mechanically as far as the linkage and all but with no result as far as a gear change. I can shift from Park all the way through every gear and it basically it shifts out of park but its like its in Nuetral, it does not go into any gear, any Ideas? I looked at the fuses under the dash board that had anything to do with the tranny as well as the ones in the box under the hood near the radiator.

Please help! any and all help or ideas is Greatly appreciated here.

Have you checked your transmission fluid level? If not do it today. Failing that is could be that your torque converter is not locking up when it should or it could be the TRS (transmission range sensor). Many replies on this board make mention that when that sensor goes bad all sort so electrical issues take place with the tranny.

alright all these people don't know what they're talking about. you need to replace the transmission filter sometimes it gets cloged and then all the sudden your car won't move. So if you get that done it should be fine.

Interesting response, however your answer to the poster's issue seems to be a little late.....as s/he already fixed it.
