Title for trouble shooting

I brought my boy's car in to the garage cause it wouldn't start. It turns over fine. They trouble shot it for a couple of days and then said the car is not worth the bill. They made a deal with me to swap the title for the bill. The car was a 90 delta 88. I paid 380 for it. It sucked because we put $300 into repairs for the 3mths he owned it. Anyone have a title taken for repairs??

Re: Title for trouble shooting

What are you actually asking here? What did you owe them that the car ( not running) paid for?

Re: Title for trouble shooting

Well, just if anyone has experienced that. Swapping a title of a car for a repair or in this case a trouble shooting bill. I never seen a bill. They just told me all the different things they tried, putting parts in and then taking them out over two days. I guess i could have asked to look at a bill but, just figured ya, two days of trouble shooting at 50 to 75 an hour is going to be way up there. What i would really like to find is a automotive forum for "local garages" to see what other peoples experience with this garage has been.

I would want to see the bill for all of the parts they replaced. My buddy went through this same thing. Car wouldnt run right, the mechanic said the motor was shot and offered him $300. I bought it off my buddy for $600, cost me $100 to repair and I've put 12k miles on it without any problems. I hate garages.

Don't hate all garages. I own my own shop and if I couldn't fix the problem the car would have been released with no bill. How can a shop charge you for something they can't fix?

Re: Title for trouble shooting

Good Point wrightway dave !

I've had people offer me to purchase thier car because it wasnt worth fixing to them cost wise. So I'll throw them a bone and then I would have some spare parts or another car for sale if it's fixable.

You Sure can get scammed though by Shops.

Check the BBB for that garages name and see if thiers been any complaints t_bell40.
