Cool run flats

Any recent experiences with Bridgestone run flats since the Feb '07 postings?

My 06 325i, my dealer says, after 28,000 mi will soon need new tires. One of the service men said since BMW builds the car for the run flats, you can't put regular tires on. Another said I could. I, personally, am not thrilled with the handling of the run flats. I previously had Toyos on a 95 325i and I think it handled better than my 06. The flat tire safety issue is not one to ignore, but how much more money are we willing to spend?

Thanks,
Steve S
