where would i start to look for possible solutions to heated seats not working at all?
Any easy way to take seat apart inside jeep and still be able to put it back together? If need be what would be a good place to take it to have it fixed? (Whrer i wont get raped) LOL |

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
Are both seats (driver and passenger) not working? Or just the driver.

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
See this TSB:
http://home.sc.rr.com/janet/TSB/08-03-99.htm It's probably an open circuit. The dealer replaced a defective thermister with a 100 ohm 1/2 watt resister and it fixed it.

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
Neither Seats work.
What is a thermister? With the diagram. do i have to remove the seat, or can it be done without it. Im not extremely lucky with taking things apart and having them work again

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
Check this previous thread:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=764035 A thermister is a resister that changes resistance the hotter it gets (usually higher resistance). Like the guy says in the thread you can replace the thermister (what he calls a sensor) with a 1/2 watt resister. You can take the seats apart but be real careful. If you're unsure take it to the dealer. The dealer I took mine to had the seats taken apart and put together by an upholstery shop.

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
Do you mind if i ask how much it would possibly cost for that?
or for the kit to do it myself? |

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
You can get resisters at Radio Shack for under $5. You need a good volt-ohm meter to do any toubleshooting though.

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
Quote:
Are you sure it was a 100 ohm and not a 100k ohm 1/2 watt resistor. I finally got mine working it was a broken wire at the sensor but replace it, I replaced the Sensor with a 2.2k 1/2 watt resistor - the FSM says the sensor should read between 2k - 200K ohms of resistance. When I replaced my sensor with the 2.2k resistor it still would not turn my seats on, so I took the seat apart again to look for any bad wires, ran all the tests again and everything checked out fine, so tested the sensor again and I got about 7k connected it back up and the seat works great. Then I had a problem with the seat kicked off and never seemed to get as hot as it did that first day and next morning. Here I was losing contact at the connectors from probing them so much it bent the contact and they weren't making good enough contact so I fixed them and replaced the sensor with a 10K 1/2 watt resistor and it works great.

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
I think you're right - 100K or 10K resister. I'll have to dig up the invoice to be sure.

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
So this may sound dumb but are all of these resistors and such under the seat, or in it?

Re: 97 GCL heated seat issues
it is in the seat.
in the rear part of the seat right about will your butt would be. The seats not all that hard to take apart. Just make sure the seat back is laying back some or it will be hard to remove the seat back from the bottom. You don't have to remove the seat back to do this but it makes it a whole lot easier if you remove the back then you can remove the entire leather seat cushion and look for broken wires and get to the sensor.
