Wanting to un-supercharge my Rivi

Hello everyone, I have a 97 Riviera and I am considering swapping out the l67 for a l36. I want to keep it normally aspirated, my question is what if any major modifications need to be done? Can the original ECM be used? Has anyone out there performed this swap? Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Wanting to un-supercharge my Rivi

why would you want to do that? it is designed to run with boost. our superchargers are cheap to repair and rarely ever break.(most outlast the engine) they dont hurt gas mileage and add lots of needed power to such a heavy car.
but if you insist on removing it, you could just take off the s/c belt and run the blower like a upper intake mani. (that would be a temporary solution) or swap the top end from a series II n/a. almost everything is the same AFAIK, you would just need the intake manifolds and to pull off the s/c belt, idler, tensioner and maybe do some tuning on the PCM so you arent running super rich.
most N/A guys swap out their stuff for M90's, so find a local club and i'm sure they would be happy to trade top ends with you.
but be forewarned, the s/c engines have lower compression than the N/A ones (8.5:1 vs 9.4:1, i think), so removing the s/c will make your car extremely slow, mush slower than any N/A 3800 car due to the loss of compression.

Re: Wanting to un-supercharge my Rivi

The engine has a blown rod, due to the cost factor to rebuild it, I was just considering buying a low milage used motor from a similar vehicle. I still haven't decided what to do, I just posted the question hoping to get some information, and possibly finding a more viable solution.

Re: Wanting to un-supercharge my Rivi

talk to ed morad, he has lots of used 3800 engine's both s/c and N/A. he has some out of riviera's too, so if you need wires or PCM he can get them for you pretty cheap. good luck wiht the swap.
