2004 suburban 4 wheel drive issues

Our 04 suburban won't come out of the 4 wheel low position. The suburban does not drive like it is 4 wheel drive at all, but soes act real sluggish and doggy on aceleration. When we push the other buttons on the 4 wheel shift panel they flash for awhile but nothing happens. Any ideas what this could be?

You will need to get it on a good transmission/transfer case capable scanner.
A good scanner will check shifting and have codes if there is a problem.
Get codes and post back codes and we can help.

Well they told me it was a sensor on the encoder motor inside the transfer case which talks to the switch module to let the car know where it is. I went ahead and had them replace it, all parts, seals, gaskets and new fluid, with labor amounted to $485. I have no reference to know if that is good or bad.

I do feel this dealer has been striaght with me in the past, but I have not had anything like this before. Hopefully for the work required I did not get it in the shorts to bad.

Thanks for your interest and help. It is done now but for future cases that may come up if you could let me know if this price was good or not.

I am not sure what all they had to do and what the labor rate was.
But if it is fixed and fixed right that does not sound to bad.

You might post back what the repair ticket said on it.
Parts and labor.
And the code it was setting.
It may help someone else with the same problem.

The code found was C0327 - encoder motor circuit. The encoder moter was counf to be defective. That part was replaced. I was informed this was located inside the transfer case so gaskets, seals and bolts would be required parts as well and they are called out ont the service bill. The sensor itself was $96.49. Total parts for this part of the repair was $145.81. The labor billed for this was $217.80 and a $10.00 Sublet, no idea what this is.

They also did a transfer case service which brought the total bill to $485. They had the car from 8:00 to 2:30. Not sure how long they really spent on it my guess would be about 4-5 hours. The overall total on the labor was $274. This would put the houly rate between $55 and $69 per hour. Don't know what the going rate is in the Des Moines Iowa area.

That sounds good and a fair price.
Dealer labor will range from 75-125$ per hr.
Be glad they checked it out and found the problem and got it fixed.
From what the repair ticket and code said they found and repaired the actual problem.
And may have even repaired the circuit in the actuator motor instead of just replacing the complete 500$ motor
And took the time to service it at the same time.
Some places just throw parts at it.
