Re: '97, intermittent stalling, MAP sensor code
Well if only I had a dollar for every Leabre stalling post I found so far. It is excellent because there is a wealth of information, however it is difficult because there is so many posts. I thought I would tag on here because I am having a similar problem as described here.
I have a 98 Buick Lesabre. It has 157,000 miles on it. Last week I had a mechanic buddy install a used motor to replace the original one that blew up. He is an ASE mechanic and did a great job the used motor had 90,000 on it I think but good compression and such. The motor runs excellent except- wait for it-... it stalls randomly. It will stall and die when either the brake is applied or while coasting down the street, hasnt happened while on the gas. When the engine stalls/dies the tach will bounce between 500/1000 in that range and almost matched to it will be the oil pressure bouncing in the same motions or amount. Neutral/Park turn the key and your back along the way.
I have read as many posts as I could but I really dont know, and this mechanic did me a favor, so if I could start to get an idea or try some things myself I may save him some grief. Some important info would be we replaced the fuel filter when changing the motor. The Throttle body was transfered from the old motor, and the oil filter housing was transfered. I havent had to wait for it to "cool down" as it always starts almost imeadiately. The throttle body and components were cleaned when transfered over, and the only other thing I can say is that the oil had a long shelf life? Sealed in the containor but several years old. This problem will usually happen once the vehicle is driven for a while (warmed up) which seems like it would be the crank or cam sensor? But it always restarts.
I also threw a code for lean in bank one P1071 I think? I do not know if that would cause my issues but I have a 02 sensor waiting to go in tomorrow. Thanks guys I know this is really vague and the problems are abundant just curious if anyone knows what stalling and dropping oil pressure would be. And no it isnt the gauge dying you see the oil pressure fluctuate and then it drops or some times recovers.
