Re: need to know if my subs can handle my amp

^i agree with both above post. Music will play a large part as well as your gains being set up correctly. Something else that effects power handling is the box.

Re: need to know if my subs can handle my amp

are you running in a series or parallel?
Type E's are 4 ohm SVC right? and your amp is 2 ohm stable, i believe, type E's are an RMS wattage of 250, and a max of 750... so it would be fine at about half gain, or a lil more... plus i know nothing about Diamond Amps

you don't know if its fine at half gain or not, it could be clipping the signal and ultimatly blow the subs.

power usually doesnt kill the subs (it does, but to a point).. clipping the signal is the # 1 reason why people blow speakers.

Re: need to know if my subs can handle my amp

How you going to tell him how to set his gain on his amp? You don't even know what head unit he has. The voltage on the outputs from the cd player has a HUGE impact on the gain of the amp.

Re: need to know if my subs can handle my amp

preamp voltage doesnt mean much if your setting the gains with a DMM

False .... POWER kills speakers, clipping in and of itself, does not harm speakers.

Re: need to know if my subs can handle my amp

which is why i said to a point, of course your going to blow a sub on 1000rms if its rated for 350.. if you have nice clean power you can easily run 500rms on it daily with no harm.

i dont see how you say clipping doesnt kill subs, if it doesnt why can you burn a coil on a 2000rms sub with 400w?

Re: need to know if my subs can handle my amp

you can easily double (and possibly triple) the average power output of an amplifier if you clip it hard enough. The clipping itself is not causing the damage, it's the extra power - and the way it's tranmitted to the speaker. There will no longer be peaks, just a lot of "area under the curve", the poor speaker never gets a break and finaly fails from thermal stress.
