Help with beeps

Hey guys, i'm new around here and just have a quick question:
I have a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis that beeps from the dashboard usually in 7 sets of 5 beeps. Talk about annoying. It doesn't come over the stereo or anything like that, it sounds like its actually coming from behind the dash. I tried googling it (How I found these forms) to no avail, does anyone know why it would be doing this, or how I can stop it? I brought it to a mechanic and he said he couldn't even find where it was coming from. My dad thinks it has something to do with the airbag being disconnected, but I don't see why that would be.

Any help would be greatly apperciated.
-Ken

Re: Help with beeps

your dad is correct the series of beeps means the airbag is not working properly

Re: Help with beeps

Is there any way I can stop them sans bringing it in to have whatever is wrong fixed? I've already dropped a good bit of money into this car (it's been for sale for a while, just trying to keep it running till it sells) and i'm try to avoid any more.

Does the ABS light in the dash come on when the key is turned on? If not, replace the bulb.

Re: Help with beeps

Hi Ken:
Your airbag system is inoperative. The airbag will not protect you in an accident. You need to know this before we go any further. You should have the system repaired properly...it's not an expensive system for that vehicle. If you want to know what components you may need to repair the system, you can visit our website @ www.Airbagsolutions.com.

The tones you hear are actually fault codes for the airbag system. The system is designed to flash an airbag light when the system fails, and if the light fails, the failsafe system initiates a tone system in the diagnostic monitor. Yours is located unde the dash. It's a blue box, about 6"x4"x1". If you find it, you can disonnect the 2 gray connectors and the tones should stop.

Re: Help with beeps

On my '99 CV, I had the same problem, replacing the air bag warning light solved the problem for about 97 cents.

Re: Help with beeps

I am having similar problems. My 1990 mercury's airbag light blinks nine times. Where can I find out what the codes mean? I have been to http://www.airbagsolutions.com several times and the information is too general and very expensive to join. Is there an ODB connector in these older vehicles and where is it?

Thanks in advance,
Bob
