How Its Going So Far.....

Here is the progress i have made over the last month, i also put some pics up to explain how to put on sideskirts without the clips as some of you asked about it, my trunk is also finished, so i put some pics of it up too. Tell me what you think...

Finished Trunk Enclosure

I made it so i could peel the back off to have tail light access and to adjust my amp.

Heres the interior in progress...

This is the 3M tape i was talking about to mount the sideskirts, its almost like a tar once it gets warm, it sticks like crazy!

Here they are on and pretty...

Let me know what you think!

Re: How Its Going So Far.....

Looks amazingly good. Trunk looks nice, but now you can't carry anything.Skirts look good too. I'm just wondering how well that tape will hold up with moisture and such. But looks awesome.

Re: How Its Going So Far.....

The tape works amazingly good, like i said once summer rolls around and i take it out on a nice hot summer day the tape malts in a way to bond to what it is holding on to. On my Grand Am GT i redid the panels with it, and it took two people to rip the shit off. I would recommend using it for anything like this. GREAT STUFF!

There is actually a hidden compartment i built under the enclosure you can put things in by folding down the back seat: backpack, nitrous tank, hookers.... lol j/k about the hookers but yea... i really dont like to put things by my sub, one of my buddys had a screwdriver laying in the trunk with his sub and it ended up in it, after that i figured i wouldnt even take the chance...

Looks good man, Why did you put the on before you painted them? Or did you just hold them up to see how it looked? Sub looks good too. I want to see some of the motor!

Re: How Its Going So Far.....

That tape is hella strong, I know tons of people that use that, and that only, to hold on aftermarket (and now stock) sideskirts. I used that shit and rivets to hold on my sideskirts, and after I drilled out the rivets, I was pulling on them so hard to get them off I thought i was going to pull the whole damn fender off. Definitely good shit.

Im not sure what i am doing with the painting yet... When i think about painting all i see is.... $$$$$$$$! lol I have done doors and fenders for people, but i dont think i trust myself with a whole car, and i dont want to do all the sanding, i fucking hate sanding! I know two people who paint for a living and they said they would hook me up so i guess ill have to see..... I dont even want to think about it right now, my goal is to be finished before spring and thats already eating up my paychecks...

Heres an engine shot before i took stuff apart, i really havent gotten around to doing anything with it yet, but ill put pics up when i get started.

Re: How Its Going So Far.....

Wow, haven't seen a stock 420a in a while. So your going to paint the whole car. If you have a little bit of car refinishing knowledge, you could do all of the body work, prime and sand the car, that would cut down on a lot of the price it would cost you to paint your car.

Re: How Its Going So Far.....

As long as the paint on the rest of the car is good I see no need to do the whole car. Just paint the skirts to match for now, and then maybe next year give the whole thing a good paintjob if you're really set on new paint. But it's not like some wetsanding and a buffer won't make it look like brand new.

Re: How Its Going So Far.....

Yea, but the car has lots of little scratches and some really wierd scrapes, its like it was sideswiped, but there is no denting or body damage, not even a little, the paint was just scraped off, plus i really dont like the color, its really dull if you see it in person, plus its faded, and i really want a darker red, like this.

Re: How Its Going So Far.....

Trunk looks good. How does it sound? But I never would have put on the sideskirts before painting them. You don't want to paint them on the car....that would be do-do. Even though that tape is strong, I still wouldn't trust that only to hold on the skirts. I would atleast use a few sheet metal screws. But to each his own. But yea what are the plans for the engine?

Re: How Its Going So Far.....

Im going to start with bolt ons (Plugs, wires, CAI, 59mm TB, Header back Exhaust, UDP) and go from there. Nirtous is a possibility in the future after the rest of the car is done. I may look into internals in the future depending on what its like after i finish the bolt ons. Not entirely sure yet.
