Re: 95' GL for 98' GL...i think...

Technically it can work, but the MTX-75 transmissions from 95-97 are different than the 98-00's. 95-97's use a rod shift. 98-00 are cable shift. It definetely can be converted, but youll need the 98-00 shift tower, brake lines need to be modified for clearance issues, etc. Probably more work than you want to do.

Re: 95' GL for 98' GL...i think...

man, im not worried about time and work, time is something that i have all of. not workin so every minute towards doing this without a shop is much more worth my effort than dragging it to one and paying them to fix it. i can swap the shift tower eh> i have no interior, it has been a project car forever u have helped me a few times lol. no center consol or door panels, soon no hood or fenders. just the brake lines, shift line need to be taken from the other car? wat are some mis matches that can go wrong wiht the motor and transmission? will all transmissions for all 2.0 contours work in all other contours? im just askin cuz i have no other source of information. im stuk in kansas takin the new trans from a car in the middle of a field in BFE to put it in in like 20 degree weather... well, thanks again

Re: 95' GL for 98' GL...i think...

Heres a quote from the man himself, Terry Haines that designed these transmissions for Ford and has a motorsports company dedicated towards the MTX-75. Hes talking about converting a cable shift to a rod shift. Your doing the other way around, but either way, heres the issues you have to deal with.

To fit a rod shift in place of a cable shift trans is NOT just the trans or shift linkage...You need the rear roll restrictor bracket from a rod shift that will take the bushed support arm from the shift box in the floor. The trans mount off of a cable shift will NOT fit a rod shift(bolt spacing). The brake lines will need a tweek near the trans and the reverse light switch on a rod shift is a 4 pin(reverse and neutral position switch)Pinout is NOT the same so a unique switch has to me 'made up' as the cable switch will NOT fit a rod tower...few other bits as well but that is the basics..I've done two back to rod from cable..not just a bolt in I can assure you!TH

And no, a 4 cylinder mtx-75 will not work since the bellhousing is different.

"The trans mount off of a cable shift will NOT fit a rod shift(bolt spacing)"..
wen u say that, are you describing all the accessories including the shift shaft and the yellow plastic brackets around the shaft that support it in each gears? and wat connects to the linkage to the transmission?
and also, im putting a transmission from a 98' Auto/Trans into a 95' Auto/Trans..both are 4 cyl. neither are manual transmissions. u have an email that I can get u at, it would be easier on that.. or messenger?
yahoo or aim?
