Question 1998 Bonneville Electrical problem???

I have a 1998 Bonne that has about 230 rounds on it. It has been very reliable until the other day I put it into reverse and I went about 2 feet and the car shut off, the power windows don't work, the door locks don't work "unless you put the car in gear it will lock them' then it is not getting gas and the door chime no longer goes off?? it is so wierd I don't know if anyone has ever experienced anything like this before? any input is greatly appreciated!

Re: 1998 Bonneville Electrical problem???

This is really my car and i had my buddy post that first part. I looked at the buss you were talking about and there were 8 black wires and one black and white wire none of them looked bad. Could it be ware the main ground for that buss is not grounded and if so ware would that be?

Re: 1998 Bonneville Electrical problem???

I went from that ground buss to the frame and got 11V i did not check each one do to lack of day light. I also cleaned the ground on the motor and the frame. My power locks work as long as the lights and radio are not on. So when i first open the door the locks work but not well it is on the on position or when the light timer has them on. Thanks for all the help so fare because i am out of ideas. IF you have any ideas i am open to try them.

Have you checked all your battery connections, to be sure they are clean and tight?

Re: 1998 Bonneville Electrical problem???

I was not able to get the wires off of the ground bus so i did not trace that. I did try to start it and it started for a few sec. i did the same thing a few time and it started every time. I realized that if my fog lights were of it would start. i pulled the computer out and followed the light from the fog light back to ware it enters the wiring harness that has the light and ran out of time to work on it any ideas ware in that harness? Dose it run through the door?

Thanks
Buff

Re: 1998 Bonneville Electrical problem???

Here's a link to an article on cleaning the ground bus.
http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...=article&k=102
You have to remove the metal bar & clean both the male & female end of each terminal. Im guessing the heavier gauge wire going to the ground bus will lead you where it grounds to the chassis.

You also need to remove the rubber boots from the battery cables in order to properly clean them.

Applying dielectric grease after cleaning should help prevent future corrosion on ground bus & battery cables.
