87 LeSabre IGNITION will not turn to the ON position
87 LaSaber key ignition will not turn to the On position. It will turn backward to the acc position. Turned the sterring wheel and pushed the brakes while trying to move the gear shift lever to engage the key forward movement. Nothing is making the key to operate normally. I have had some rough times in the past to get the key to move forward to the On position. I am thinking that the key (ignition) is just broken or out of tolerance from usage (170,000 miles and age). Your assistance is appreciated.
If this is the problem, can the parts be removed and new parts installed easily? |

Re: 87 LaSaber IGNITION will not turn to the ON position
If if is not the Key mechanics, where would I find the IGNITION SWITCH? What does it look like? I have chased down the hazard and turn signal relays under the dashboard covers before...is the ignition switch down in that area as well?
Regards and thanks |

Re: 87 LeSabre IGNITION will not turn to the ON position
replace the lock cylinder. you will need a steering wheel puller, and a lock plate remover. A haynes or chilton manual will help. I have a 1989 Buick Lesabre, 246,000 miles. I had the same problem and replacing the lock cylinder solved my problem.
