Question Wiring is a definate issue in my 96...Help?

When I was drving my 96 bravada I came to a stop and as I have my foot on the brake and looking at the dash board it lost all electical and than I looked up and see smoke pouring out from under the hood. So I opened up the hood and the altenator wire was completyly melted, and this wasnt the first time it happened. Now we had it in our garage for a while before this and had thought that the electrical issue was simply because of an improperly wired radio but we hadn't hooked that back up and the first time we had it out on the road the heater wasnt hooked up and the wiring still melted itself but the actual wires stayed connected. Currently we have it set up with a temporary sauder connection but we know that if we drove it for more than a few miles that would burn out too. We know its shorting out somewhere but it isnt blowing any of the fuses just the altenator wire. Anyone have any ideas, or a wiring Diagram for my 1996?
