Unsure which Keyless Entry Remote to buy.

Hello:

I recently purchased a 2002 Pontiac Montana. Love the van. Dealer was unable to supply the keyless entry remote.

I am not sure which version to purchase. I know or I do not believe either of the sliding doors are powered. My question is does the van have an alarm system installed. 1 web site shows the alarm as standard equipment that year. Yet there is a remote available with no alarm.

There is an anti theft LED in the vicinity of the Entertainment console. Does this indicate there is an alarm. Is there any way of knowing for sure?

Thanks

Gord

Re: Unsure which Keyless Entry Remote to buy.

Hi Gord,

The alarm is mainly a function of the Body Control Module (BCM), plus a couple of other components. BCM 4 is required for the alarm functions.

If you get under the glove box and take a look at the BCM part number, that should tell you. Also, when you enter the programming mode for the BCM (for "customizing" door locks, etc.), the BCM will chime 4 times if it is BCM 4, 3 for a BCM 3, etc.

You can read some of the details about the BCM at the link below. I upgraded mine from a 3 to a 4 and got to know a little bit about them.

Body Control Module

Take Care,

Thanks for the info man.....

My owners manual claims that they all were shipped programmed for mode 4
but will check that out.

You have done some serious upgrades..))))

As I have sorted out setting in the van trying to get lights working and the like wished I had the advanced console. Now I know it is possible...

Thanks

Gord

Just thought I would let you know that "mode 4" is not the same a BCM 4. Mode 4 refers to one of the possibilities for a particular setting.

I guess I just like to "play" with things. Just the danger of being a geek, I guess.

Re: Unsure which Keyless Entry Remote to buy.

The 2001+ Venture, Montana, Silhouette models have several different remote types.

If you do not have the power sliding doors, you can get the 2 button remote that is just LOCK and UNLOCK.

Re: Unsure which Keyless Entry Remote to buy.

General FYI for 01-05 Montana owners. 2 different keyless remotes (unlock & lock buttons only) work for these models. They are Delphi 9364556-4575 and 10335582-88. My 02 Montana came with the first model, but I was able to find 2 of the other model locally. I tried reprogramming my one remaining original remote and the 2 used ones using the instructions posted here in different parts of the AF and now have 3 working remotes. Hope this is helpful to fellow Montana owners :-)
