96 4x4 not engauging

It's a 302, auto, with manual 4x4 shifter and auto hubs. 4x4 light comes on, but it's not in 4x4. That's for sure. No noises from the hubs. Nothing. Is there an actuator like what's on my blazer? Sorry , I just got it and don't have a book since I'm just going to sell it sooner than later. Thanks for any help.

The Ford auto hubs have been and are junk. The lights will come on and you'll think that you are locked in, but nothing. I pulled mine and the inside was in pieces. I replaced them with a pair (about 60.00) of Superwinch manual hubs...no problem. You'll need a second mortgage if you want to replace them with OE new auto's.

Can it be anything other than the hubs? Like a switch or so i can check before pulling the hubs apart?
