94 digital dash & auto headlight problems

My 94 Cap Classics digital speedomoter starts to blink, sometimes reads wrong mileage and sometimes says "error". Recently it goes out all together and when this happens, the auto headlights go out. Not fun when driving at night. I can manually turn the lights on, but cannot register speed or mileage when this happens. Any thoughts?

Re: 94 digital dash & auto headlight problems

It's the contacts on the back of the gauge cluster. Take out the cluster (it should come out as one piece) The there will be a plug-looking thing behing it attached to the dash. If any of the contacts are corroded, clean them with sandpaper and the same goes for the plug in the cluster itself. Now, regardless of if there's corrosion or not take a very small flat blade screw driver and gently lift up on each of the leads in the plug thats in the dash, bending them towards you a bit. This will give them more pressure against the plug on the cluster, giving each contact a better connection. This should solve the problem.

Thanks, I will give that a try.
