Power window switch

2000 Silhouette

Had an issue with the power window switch on the passenger side. It will lower the window, but not raise it. You need to raise it using the driver's side control. Does the plate on the armrest that holds the switches pry off? Before I damage something cosmetically, any tips to removing the plate?

Thanks,

Mark

Yep - it should just pop straight up with a little help from a small flat screwdriver.

Take care,

Greg A.

Re: Power window switch

I have the same problem with my driver side window; did you figure out what was wrong with yours?

I tested the switch and found that it was the problem. Very easy fix. Too bad the switch is so expensive at the dealership. For the age and mileage of my van (2000 with 56KM) and the limited use this switch gets, it should not fail this soon. Guess that's GM quality for you.

I had to replace my drivers, and later passenger side switches. I ended up buying them online at one of the online dealerships.and saving quite a bit on the price including shipping. I got the switch within 2 days too. I checked all my local dealerships then went online and looked , and most of the online stores were cheaper by a wide margain. Next time if you don't need the part immediately, do a little checking locally and then online. You might save yourself some money.

Re: Power window switch

The switch cost about $142. I wasn't gonna pay that much just for a window so I got two radio shack switches - DPDT and wired it for forward & reverse directions with a center OFF. 12 volt DC goes in one pair and the DC output goes to the center two terminals. I put in a 12 relay so the window only works when the ignition switch is on. Jeez coupla 4 buck switches work just fine!

Please check the date of the last post in the thread and avoid posting in those that have been inactive over 90 days. This thread has been inactive 2 1/2 years.Start a new thread if you have new info.
FWIW, you CAN find less expensive OEM switches from online sources, and even eBay, instead of buying them directly at your local stealership's parts dept.
