Gas in Oil, No acceleration, Poor idle

95 corsica 2.2ltr. Going through gas FAST. Smell gas in oil though oil is not watery. Can smell gas out the exhaust when running. Most of the time starts right up, but it can take a few tries. When in "P" and reved it misses at high rpm. Changed plugs and wires. Checked spark from coils seems kinda weak on 2/3 coil pack but still got mild spark. So i do not know if its ignition or fuel problem. Am i getting to much fuel and not enough spark to burn or am i getting proper fuel but weak spark???? How can check? Car will barely accelerate when accelrator is pushed to the floor, it did get a bit better when i changed the wires. No check lights on. Thank you in advance!

Re: Gas in Oil, No acceleration, Poor idle

A good coil will fire a nice blue spark 2" plus. If yours does not do this you have a bad coil. Very common. they are cheap, buy two and replace them both. Get the module tested while you are at it, since you have to remove it when taking the coils off anyway(comes off as one assembly). If it is weak replace them all so you won't have to worry about for a long long time.

Thanks Js , I will pull it off when i get home. Can you do this from the top? Or do i have to go underneath the car? You think this could cause the fuel problems I described? Autozone want $35 a coil

Re: Gas in Oil, No acceleration, Poor idle

well there always other things that make a car miss but this sounds like the culprit. I just replaced all three in ours, one was firing maybe a 1/4" oen fired OK but only like one inch blue, longer yellow, and replaced the third for the heck of it. If the coil is mis firing then you would have some un burned gas going out the pipe so this SHOULD be it. BTW check around, should be 24-25 bucks for those coils.

Thumbs up Re: Gas in Oil, No acceleration, Poor idle

JSgold,
Thanks a million! I really did replace both coil packs that night and it runs like a champ! Cheapest here in IL was Autozone at $35 a piece. I also changed the gas tainted oil and filter ... both the oil change and coils change almost require you to remove the freakin engine, or be double jointed! I cannot believe they bury these basic maintance items like they do! It took 4 hours on jack stands, but It's done. I wanted to say thank you! -Sincerly Squeegee
