1996 Yukon/RPM fluctuation

I meant to add on the previous thread that I'm also having surges in the RPM's while stopped at lights or behind other cars in traffic. If I don't have my foot securely on the brake pedal, the surge at times feels as though it could push me into the car in front of me. Idle RPM is around 5-6 grand and it will surge to as much as 8 or 9 grand; then drop back down. This cycles about every 10-15 seconds while stopped. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this? A friend told me that he thought GMC had a recall for this problem in my year. Is this true?
